2020 on Sight: Violation Against Human Rights in United States of America

Violation against human rights has been a big issue in America since the first 20th century, that is also the reason why The Bill of Rights became legitimate in 1791 to guarantees civil and political rights to individual citizens, including: freedom of speech, religion, and association; the right to a fair trial; and the prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment. Since then society never stop renewing the policy for human rights. But until this day, United States is still not fully committed to human rights system.

Three months ago, the world was in uproar because of George Floyd’s case where he was unarmed and a policeman put his knee on his neck for 9 minutes that caused Floyd out of breath and died. After a big and violent mass demonstration in America, there was some quiet period. But then a shocking news happened, on August 23th 2020 another violation of human rights towards a black man. Jacob Blake (29) was shot 7 times until he died unarmed in front of his kids. This immoral accident towards Blake happened when he was trying to break up an argument between women in a home nearby. That officers were dispatched for a caller who reported that her boyfriend, who was not supposed to be on her premises, was present, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice. Officials did not specify what role Blake played in the original incident, but family attorney Benjamin Crump said he was attempting to break up a domestic dispute. But after that, the local police union claimed Blake was not breaking up a dispute and instead, officers were responding to a complaint that Blake was trying to steal a vehicle. The officer said that they tried to arrest Blake with a taser but it did not work and Blake keep walking to his own vehicle, and the officer shot him 7 times in the back.

Judging the evidence collected from the scene, Blake made no mistake that deserve 7 shots in his back. And if he did a mistake whether it is stealing vehicle or coming to his girlfriend without her permissions, no man deserves to be shot once even 7 times if he was unarmed and did not try to attack the officers. Judging from the case that happened to Floyd and Blake that happen in such a short time we can conclude that violation against human rights and racism in America is still a big issue. And if America claims that everyone deserve justice and it is equally given to each civilian, then America have to step up their game. This prove that ‘everyone’ does not scope every part of the society.

Everyone each has the right to have and protect their own human rights, as its name human rights, then every human has their own rights. And if there is anyone that try to steal or violate other’s, then an equal punishment had to be given towards the violator.
